Nadia Bartel saddles up for a new-look Melbourne Cup Carnival

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) today announced Melbourne businesswoman and fashion identity Nadia Bartel as the2020 Melbourne Cup Carnival Ambassador.

Synonymous with style, Nadia is a longtime Melbourne Cup Carnival attendee, bringing her signature style to Cup Weekevery year. Bartel’s influence spans beyond the fashion world with an impressive résumé of business and media projects rounding out her career success.

“The Melbourne Cup Carnival is always the highlight of my year, and although it may look a little different this year, I have no doubt the excitement levels will be as high as ever. I love how inclusive it will be this year, with all aspects of the experience now accessible to everyone, wherever they live and whatever restrictions are in place. I will be dressing up and tuning in from home together with the rest of Australia,” Bartel said.

“The atmosphere at Flemington Racecourse is truly something special but it will be just as magical sharing that experience with my sons at home this year. The boys love horses so it will be a memorable moment watching the races together, and teaching them all about the Melbourne Cup Carnival traditions we know and love.”

As part of her role, Nadia will be on the judging panel for the transformed Myer Fashions on your Front Lawn competition, a virtual take on the iconic fashions on the field competition. The stakes are just as high this year, with residents from all Australian states and territories invited to enter the photo-based competition online for the chance to share in a prizepool of more than $160,000, including a brand new Lexus UX250h 2WD Sports Luxury.

“Just because your heels may not make it past your front porch, it doesn’t mean you should put in any less effort. Racing is all about dressing up and feeling good, so I’m looking forward to seeing the unique style and elegance that Aussies are renowned for. I’ll take any excuse to ditch the sweats for a day!” Bartel said.

VRC Executive General Manager Customer Engagement Caroline Ralphsmith said the club was looking forward to welcoming Bartel to its stable of ambassadors.

Racing fans will be able to enjoy the classic Cup Week experience from home by ordering food and drink hampers from some of the nation’s best caterers, along with race day themed decorations and florals.

The 2020 Melbourne Cup Carnival begins with AAMI Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 31 October followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 3 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 5 November and Seppelt Wines Stakes Day on Saturday 7 November.
