Remember when ... in 2017

Lloyd Wiliams recorded his sixth win when Rekindling won the 2017 Melbourne Cup.

Arguably Australia’s most prolific and successful individual racehorse owner in modern times, Lloyd Williams recorded his sixth win as part-owner in ‘the race that stops a nation™’ when Rekindling won the 2017 Melbourne Cup. A former committee member of the VRC and head of Crown Casino, Mr Williams secured his first success in Australia’s greatest horse race in 1981 when Just A Dash won the Cup. He backed up quickly with victory in 1985 until waiting another 22 years for Efficient to add to his tally. The establishment of Macedon Lodge, Mt Macedon (60km out of Melbourne) resulted in further Cup victories through Green Moon (2012) and Almandin (2016).

The victory of Rekindling (2017) – trained out of Ireland – safely embedded Mr Lloyd Williams as the most successful owner in the history of the race. He was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2017.
